Will Still

The appointment of Will Still as the Southampton manager would have turned a few nodding heads, a remarkable rise for the 32 year old, with the age being factored in. Will’s career started as an academy coach at Preston North End on a university course working with the Under 12’s, quote Stills “I realised I had the talent, I tried to open as many doors open as I could, I got lucky at the right times and me the right people along the way”.

The Manero thought process, that’s the same in any industry, to say there is much talent who do not get the recognition they deserve. Prior to the Preston stint, Still born in Belgium to English parents, began coaching in his homeland at the age of 17 to eventually make a breakthrough in the pro ranks as a video analyst with Still’s reputation enhanced as a very talented coach. Still’s development was fast tracked to become the manager of Lierse in the Belgian First Division (B) at the age of 24 and following Lierse’s bankruptcy (filed) four years later, Still was appointed as the manager of Beerschot in the same league. Still’s reputation was harnessing to a high value and one year into the Beerschot Rein Reims in France (Ligue 1) came knocking where a 2 year spell ensued with Lens also of Ligue 1, France giving Will’s a further opportunity as their manager, in 2025 Will’s was appointed as the Southampton manager. Wills has a trend to set his teams on long unbeaten runs, at Lierse came a seven game winning streak, with the Reim’s tenure leading to a seventeen match unbeaten setting a new Ligue 1 record. The Will Still’s philosophy is to open to his teams playing on the front foot, to be proactive, a high pressing system. Still has entered the unforgiving environment of the Championship, his biggest test, can he deliver, link to article July 30th 2022 55 Minutes and Out, Young Guns on the Manager’s Block.
